Our Mission

Her Hoops AU seeks to provide young girls in WA – from mid-primary to high school age – with exceptional quality coaching and mentoring within the sport of basketball. Not only do we provide top-notch skill development and functional movement training, we do so while instilling confidence, work ethic and teamwork.  We undertake a holistic approach towards the girls in our care, using basketball as the medium to build positive relationships with their peers, coaches and leaders alike.

Her Hoops AU is both developed and coached by women in its entirety, endeavouring to provide young girls in Perth and surrounding areas with access to positive, female role models in their community.

Whether you are just taking an interest in basketball or have aspirations of winning the next Grand Final, Her Hoops AU is the place for you!

Makailah "Mak" Dyer

Mak is a professional basketball player originating from Wisconsin, USA. A lifelong passion for the game lead her to NCAA Division 1 basketball at the University of North Dakota, where she received numerous athletic accolades including All-Big Sky Conference First Team and 2017 Big Sky Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in addition to graduating with a Masters of Exercise Science & Wellness.

Mak’s professional playing career began in 2018 at the Perth Redbacks in the WA SBL with continued success at the Southwest Slammers the following season. During her time in WA, Mak has represented the SBL All-Star team on both nominated occasions, with her exceptional form leading her to be awarded the Slammers Team MVP & Highest Free-Throw Percentage for the WSBL. She also finished top 5 in league (20.2) points per game, (4.5) assists per game and MVP votes in 2019. Mak will return to the Perth Redbacks for the inaugural NBL1-West Competition in 2021.

Dyer’s genuine reputation in the WA community was quickly established through elite coaching avenues such as the Independent Girls’ Schools’ Sports Association (IGSSA), West Australian Basketball League (WABL) and DBL (Deteski Basketball League) in Indonesia. Since her arrival, she has bought her wealth of knowledge and substantial playing experience together to create Her Hoops. She continues to be a strong, positive female role model to young women through this niche avenue.
